Sony Interactive Entertainment has revealed the three games that will be available to PlayStation Plus Essential subscribers in July 2026. According to the official announcement, the monthly lineup will be headlined by Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III and will also include For the King II and CrossCode.

All three titles will be available for download from Tuesday, July 7, 2026, and will remain claimable until Monday, August 3, 2026. As confirmed across multiple sources, each game in the July selection will be available for both PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 consoles.

The offering provides a diverse range of genres, from a blockbuster first-person shooter to a tactical fantasy RPG and a retro-inspired action title. As noted in the announcement, the specific lineup may vary by region, and players are advised to check the PlayStation Store on the release date for local availability.

PlayStation Plus members who add these games to their library during the claim period will retain access to them as long as they maintain an active subscription to any tier of the service.

Modern Warfare 3 Headlines July Lineup with Cross-Gen Bundle

The lead title for the PlayStation Plus Essential July 2026 lineup is Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III – Cross-Gen Bundle, available for both PS5 and PS4. The offering provides the full 2023 release, which Sony and Activision have promoted as a major addition for subscribers.

The game's campaign is a direct sequel to Modern Warfare II, as detailed in official PlayStation announcements. Players rejoin Captain Price and Task Force 141 in a global confrontation with the ultranationalist war criminal Vladimir Makarov. The multiplayer component modernizes 16 classic maps from 2009's Modern Warfare 2, featuring upgraded graphics and new modes. A significant new addition is Modern Warfare Zombies, an open-world Player vs. Environment (PvE) mode described by Sony as the "largest Zombies map created to date," where squads can team up with others.

This inclusion comes ahead of the scheduled October 23 release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, positioning the monthly offering as a chance for players to complete the current narrative. The game's campaign, however, was met with notable criticism upon its original launch; IGN's review scored it a 4/10, calling it "underbaked, rehashed, and cobbled together from multiplayer parts," according to a separate report. The Cross-Gen Bundle ensures accessibility for the entire PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 subscriber base throughout the claim period from July 7 to August 3.

Strategic RPG Combat in For the King II

For the King II brings strategic, party-based combat to PlayStation Plus subscribers, tasking players with liberating the land of Fahrul from a corrupted monarch. The tactical RPG sequel, developed by the creators of the original For The King, is available for both PS5 and PS4 as part of the July 2026 monthly lineup, according to the official PlayStation announcement.

The game's story premise centers on Queen Rosomon, a once-beloved ruler who has turned tyrannical. As detailed in the announcement, she has "enslaved her subjects in the darkness of Fahrul’s mines and forged alliances with sinister forces." Players must build a party to fight against her oppressive reign.

Gameplay blends roguelite and tabletop-inspired mechanics on a procedurally generated map. It supports solo play or cooperative adventure for up to four players. The developers state this sequel is "built upon the beloved blend of roguelite and tabletop gameplay with an updated engine," promising refined and innovative tactical combat for both series veterans and newcomers.

Retro Action and Sci-Fi Mystery in CrossCode

The final title in July's PlayStation Plus Essential lineup is CrossCode, a 2D action RPG defined by its vibrant 16-bit graphics and a genre-blending fusion of combat, puzzles, and sci-fi storytelling. The game will be available for both PS5 and PS4 from Tuesday, July 7, until Monday, August 3, according to Sony's official announcement.

CrossCode is described by the developer as a "retro-inspired" experience that merges the visual style of a 16-bit era with modern, fluid physics and a fast-paced combat system. The game aims to create a balanced experience by combining elements from popular genres, specifically drawing inspiration from "the puzzle-solving found in old-school Action Adventure dungeons" and the "extensive equipment variety characteristic of RPGs," as detailed in the PlayStation Blog announcement.

During its frenetic battles, players must utilize tools acquired throughout their journey to identify and exploit enemy weaknesses. The game also allows for a strategic approach through the selection of equipment and skills, enabling players to customize their fighting style. This mechanical depth is wrapped in a compelling science-fiction narrative, offering a distinct experience compared to the month's other offerings, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III and For the King II.
