Nintendo Announces Two Unreleased Virtual Boy Games for Switch Online
Nintendo will add the previously unreleased Virtual Boy games D-Hopper and Zero Racers to Virtual Boy – Nintendo Classics on Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack on August 4, 2026. Nintendo of America announced the release in a post on X on July 31, listing both games as coming to the service.
Access requires an active Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscription. The Virtual Boy – Nintendo Classics additions are available through the service on compatible Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 systems.
What D-Hopper and Zero Racers Are
D-Hopper, formerly known as Dragon Hopper, is described as a fantasy action-adventure game. According to the reported game details, players take the role of a prince seeking to overthrow an evil regime and rescue his loved ones, fairies, and elemental spirits from its control.
Zero Racers is a racing game inspired by Nintendo’s Super Nintendo title F-Zero. Both games were originally planned for release on the Virtual Boy in 1996, but Nintendo discontinued the console before either title launched.
As a result, the games remained unreleased until their planned inclusion in Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pass.

Nintendo is also expanding its Virtual Boy-related offerings beyond the two game releases. According to the report, Nintendo Music now includes soundtracks from Virtual Boy Wario Land, Mario Clash, Galactic Pinball, Teleroboxer, and Mario’s Tennis.
Nintendo previously added select Virtual Boy titles to Nintendo Switch Online in September 2025. As part of that revival, the company offered plastic and cardboard headset replicas designed to recreate the original Virtual Boy experience. The reported accessories could also provide access to VR modes in select Switch games, including The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Super Mario Odyssey; that functionality is separate from the announcement of the new Virtual Boy games.
Nintendo’s broader subscription schedule also includes Super Mario Sunshine, which is scheduled to arrive on Nintendo Switch Online on August 13, 2026, according to the report.

Those details should be verified against Nintendo’s official service listings before publication.
Nintendo has also announced a screen-color option for the Virtual Boy update, according to reporting from Vooks. However, the announcement does not provide exact in-game locations, additional prerequisites, rewards, or missable-content warnings for either title. Those guide-style details are not applicable to this news report unless Nintendo releases further information.
