Iconic weapons in Cyberpunk 2077 do not sit on a permanent damage ladder. Their damage scales with weapon Tier, while Update 2.0 and later patches changed how several signature effects work. The useful question is not which gun has the biggest number on one save, but which weapon gives your current run the best mix of damage potential, a meaningful effect, and a route you can actually complete.
This is a post-Update 2.0 ranking through Patch 2.31: Lizzie is the broadly accessible default, Her Majesty is the stealth specialist, Erebus is the expensive late-game payoff, the Satori/Nehan pair is the early melee-sustain package, and Malorian Arms 3516 is the character-identity pistol. Satori and Nehan count as one ranked package and one slot because their value comes from the interaction between them; the numbered entries explain the tradeoff behind each recommendation.
How the Ranking Weighs Damage, Effects, and Access
“Best” depends on more than the damage shown on a weapon’s current tooltip. Since Update 2.0, weapon damage scales with Tier, making fixed-stat comparisons unreliable across different characters and progression points. Iconic Weapons are named variants with distinctive effects and upgrade potential, so their value comes from how those traits perform in a real build—not from one universal damage figure.
This ranking weighs three factors together: damage potential, the usefulness of a weapon’s special effect, and acquisition friction. Build synergy, Phantom Liberty access, quest routes, stat requirements, crafting demands, and missable pickups all affect how practical a weapon is. A weapon with a higher late-game ceiling may be a worse recommendation if you cannot access it during your current run or its route conflicts with the build you want to play.
For example, a broadly accessible weapon available during ordinary progression can be the more useful choice for most players, even when a route-dependent Phantom Liberty weapon offers a stronger late-game payoff. The first requires less commitment; the second may require the expansion, a specific mission route, a stat investment, and a scarce crafting choice. Raw damage alone would hide that difference.
Read the five entries as a practical ranking for different progression states and playstyles, not as a universal DPS table. The list begins with the strongest broadly accessible option for an ordinary run, then moves through specialist, late-game, paired-effect, and character-weapon choices. That makes the first recommendation the natural starting point for players who want one powerful Iconic Weapon without committing to a specialized route.
1. Lizzie Is the Best Broadly Accessible All-Rounder
Lizzie is the strongest general-use Iconic Weapon because its signature effect improves ordinary Tech Pistol play without requiring a specialized build. It fires an extra round with each shot, then produces an even stronger volley when fully charged. That gives you useful projectile output in regular encounters while still rewarding deliberate charge timing.

Lizzie Iconic Weapon
Its acquisition is unusually straightforward. After starting “Automatic Love,” enter the basement of Lizzie’s Bar and look near Judy’s workshop. You can pick up the weapon there without defeating a boss, choosing a particular quest route, passing a stat check, or crafting it. The only real requirement is reaching the relevant point in the story.
That makes Lizzie the practical default for a player who wants a powerful Iconic Weapon before committing to a more focused setup. Reach “Automatic Love,” collect it from the basement, and use it as your main pistol while you decide whether the rest of your build should favor stealth, melee, or another weapon class. You do not need Phantom Liberty or a route-specific reward to make the pickup worthwhile.
Choose Lizzie first when you want the best balance of damage potential, a useful built-in effect, and minimal acquisition friction. Players already building around Optical Camo may get more value from the next-ranked specialist, Her Majesty.
2. Her Majesty Wins When Optical Camo Is Part of the Build
Her Majesty is the strongest stealth specialist in this ranking because its bonuses line up directly with Optical Camo. The pistol has a built-in silencer, and while Optical Camo is active, it provides perfect accuracy, guaranteed headshot critical hits, and increased damage. That combination turns a carefully prepared opening into reliable, high-impact shots without sacrificing stealth.
The weapon is exclusive to Phantom Liberty and is obtained from Alex during “Get It Together.” Its value therefore depends on both expansion access and build direction. If Optical Camo is already part of your cyberware setup, Her Majesty gives that investment a clear offensive payoff; if you are not using Optical Camo, much of what makes the pistol exceptional is unavailable.
For example, activate Optical Camo before entering an encounter, then use Her Majesty to place accurate headshots from concealment. The guaranteed critical effect makes the weapon especially dependable for stealth openings, while the silencer helps preserve the approach that enables its bonuses in the first place.
Choose Her Majesty when your run already supports Optical Camo and you want a dedicated stealth pistol. It is not the best general-purpose replacement for Lizzie, but it can outperform a broader recommendation when stealth is the build’s central plan. The next-ranked weapon offers a larger late-game payoff, though reaching it requires a specific route and a mutually exclusive crafting choice.
3. Erebus Has the Highest Late-Game Payoff—and the Highest Cost
Erebus earns the third spot by offering one of the strongest late-game effects in the ranking. Its Blackwall-infused rounds are particularly effective against weakened enemies and can trigger Blackwall Gateway or related disruption, giving the weapon value beyond ordinary gun damage. That payoff is powerful, but it arrives only after a demanding sequence of expansion, route, stat, and crafting requirements.
To obtain it, you need Phantom Liberty, side with Reed during “Firestarter,” and reach “Somewhat Damaged.” During that mission, secure the Erebus schematic in the Maintenance area near the Sierra terminal, then obtain the decoded behavioral component from Cerberus. Technical Ability 20 is required to reroute power and open the relevant room. The component is also mutually exclusive with the one used to craft Militech Canto Mk.6, so choosing Erebus means giving up that alternative.
For example, a Reed-route player who has invested in Technical Ability 20 can treat “Somewhat Damaged” as the final test of whether the weapon fits the run. If the player secures the schematic and component and prefers direct-fire damage with Blackwall effects, Erebus is the stronger choice. If that route, stat investment, or crafting decision does not fit, its impressive late-game potential is not enough to justify pursuing it.
Choose Erebus when you own the expansion, accept the Reed route, meet the Technical Ability requirement, and want the direct-fire payoff badly enough to sacrifice Militech Canto Mk.6. It is the ranking’s most demanding weapon to acquire, but also its clearest example of a specialized Iconic outperforming a more accessible option under the right conditions. The fourth-ranked Satori and Nehan package reaches its value much earlier through missable pickups and paired melee sustain.
4. Satori and Nehan Form the Best Early Melee-Sustain Package
Satori earns the fourth spot through what it does with Nehan, not through standalone damage. Its base damage is reduced, but it compensates with increased critical damage. The katana is also easy to miss during “The Heist,” making this a high-value pickup that requires attention rather than a weapon you can safely collect later.

Nehan in the Black Market Vendor inventory
During “The Heist,” take Satori from Saburo’s AV and collect Nehan from Saburo’s body. Nehan applies bleeding when thrown, and using it against an enemy already bleeding from Satori triggers hemorrhage. That effect drains the enemy’s health while regenerating yours, giving the pair a sustain loop that makes aggressive melee combat more forgiving.
This is why Satori and Nehan occupy one ranked slot instead of counting as two separate weapons. Their value comes from the interaction: Satori establishes the bleed effect, while Nehan converts it into additional damage and healing. A player focused on early blades or bleed effects should secure both before leaving the mission area; relying on Satori alone gives up much of the package’s practical strength.
Choose the pair when you want early melee sustain and are willing to accept Satori’s missable acquisition and lower standalone base damage. Players who miss the pickup, prefer general gunplay, or do not plan to use bleed effects will get more consistent value from the earlier-ranked options. For a pistol-focused choice with a stronger character identity, the final ranked weapon is Malorian Arms 3516.
5. Malorian Arms 3516 Remains the Best Character Weapon
Here, “best character weapon” means the strongest fit for a player who values Johnny Silverhand’s pistol identity alongside current damage and a distinctive effect—not a universal claim about every character-linked Iconic.
Malorian Arms 3516 remains worth using after the post-2.0 changes, especially for players who want Johnny Silverhand’s signature pistol rather than a purely optimized sidearm. Patch 2.02 increased its damage and improved recoil control at low Stamina, making its current performance more dependable than early evaluations suggest.
Its most distinctive feature is the quick melee attack. The strike ignites the enemy, deals heavy damage, and consumes the remaining ammunition in the magazine. That makes Malorian a risk-reward weapon: a pistol player can rush a weakened enemy, trigger the incendiary attack for a burst of damage, and deliberately sacrifice the rest of the magazine to finish the encounter.
You obtain Malorian from Grayson during “Chippin’ In,” so it requires reaching that story mission before it becomes available. Once you have it, choose the weapon when Johnny’s character identity and the melee-fire effect matter as much as straightforward pistol damage. It is a strong current Iconic, but the ammunition tradeoff keeps it from being a no-cost recommendation for every pistol build.
Choose Your Iconic Weapon by Build, Progression, and DLC Access
Use the ranking as a default order, then override it when your build or current route makes another weapon more practical.
| Rank | Choose it when… | Immediate action |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Lizzie | You want the strongest broadly accessible option. | Pick it up in Lizzie’s Bar after starting “Automatic Love.” |
| 2. Her Majesty | You own Phantom Liberty and use Optical Camo. | Claim it from Alex during “Get It Together.” |
| 3. Erebus | You are following Reed’s route and want a late-game Blackwall weapon. | Meet the Technical Ability requirement, secure the schematic and Cerberus component, then choose Erebus over Militech Canto Mk.6. |
| 4. Satori and Nehan | You are building around early melee sustain and bleed effects. | Collect both from Saburo’s AV and body during “The Heist.” |
| 5. Malorian Arms 3516 | You want Johnny’s pistol and accept its ammunition-consuming melee attack. | Obtain it from Grayson during “Chippin’ In.” |
For an early or no-DLC run, use Kongou or Dying Night instead of waiting for a later specialist. Kongou offers cyberware-free ricochet, reduced recoil, and increased fire rate, while Dying Night is a free Wilson pickup whose current behavior rewards movement and repeated hits with Shock.
Genjiroh remains a suitable smart-pistol alternative during “Play It Safe,” near Redwood Market and Japantown behind a Technical Ability door. Widow Maker, Byakko, O’Five, Pride, Rasetsu, and Errata are also credible when their specific effects or routes match your build, but they are more specialized than the ranked defaults.
If you miss a vendor-eligible Iconic Weapon, check Dogtown’s Black Market Vendor for a possible fallback. This is not a reliable recovery route for every weapon, and it should not be treated as a way to recover the Satori/Nehan package; secure both during “The Heist.”
