Oda is beaten by denying him two advantages: the Oni mask blunts Smart weapon tracking, and adaptive camouflage gives him time to recover. Keep the opening at a distance, remove the mask with the tool your build already supports, then chase the instant his smoke bomb starts the healing retreat. His speed is dangerous, but his transitions are readable.
| When Oda… | Do this |
|---|---|
| Commits to a blade combo or jumping strike | Dodge out of the lunge, then shoot during his recovery |
| Uses the mask against your Smart weapon | Break it with Cyberware Malfunction, an EMP grenade, a takedown, or headshots |
| Vanishes in smoke and his health begins climbing | Use the scanner to follow the distortion and hit him before the regeneration completes |
Survive Oda's Blade Rush
The fight starts as soon as you disconnect the Arasaka netrunner during Play It Safe. Oda opens with fast charges, Mantis Blades, and a jumping strike that punishes you for standing still. A close-range duel gives him exactly the space he wants.
Bring a shotgun, burst-fire weapon, or Tech weapon that can keep dealing damage while Oda moves. Back through the arena instead of letting him pin you against a wall. When he begins the three-hit blade combo or jumps into the overhead strike, dodge out of the lunge; he pauses after the attack, which is your clean counterattack. Do not waste that opening trying to track a perfect headshot while he is still moving toward you.
Take the Oni Mask Out of Play
Oda's mask interferes with Smart weapon tracking, so a smart gun is a poor first answer to his mobility. Use a Power or Tech weapon until you have removed the mask, then switch back to Smart weapons if they are part of your build.
Cyberware Malfunction destroys the mask. An EMP grenade shuts it down temporarily and prevents Oda's homing-missile attack during that window. A stealth takedown also destroys it, and direct headshots can damage it. Pick the first option you have ready; the important decision is to spend one deliberate action on the mask instead of wasting a magazine on shots that cannot track.
With the mask disabled, let Oda cross open space, punish the recovery after his blades, and retreat before he can turn the distance into another combo. The arena is easier to read once you are no longer fighting your own weapon's targeting problem.
Chase the Camouflage Before He Heals
When Oda throws a smoke bomb, activates adaptive camouflage, and his health begins to climb, stop healing or reloading and pursue him. This is not a safe pause; it is the fight's recovery mechanic. If you let him disappear into the arena, the encounter can stretch back toward the beginning.
Switch on the scanner and follow the distortion or the trail of his movement. The outline is still visible enough to track. Shoot Oda as soon as you locate him; any interruption stops the regeneration and returns him to the fight.
After the retreat, Oda adds his Smart SMG and homing projectiles to the pressure. Purple trails reveal the missiles, but their spread makes open ground dangerous. Break line of sight behind solid cover, wait out the volley, and return fire while he pauses. The response stays the same every time: locate Oda first, then deal damage.
Spare Oda After the Knockdown
When Oda's health bar empties and he collapses, wait for Takemura's call. Do not fire again if you want to spare him; a shot after the collapse kills him. Loot Oda after the call to take the iconic Jinchu-Maru.
If you spare Oda, he returns during Totalimmortal to help V against Yorinobu Arasaka's forces. Killing him changes Takemura's reaction but does not alter the objective that follows. Make the choice after the fight, not during the knockdown, when one extra shot is the difference between the two outcomes.
